What specifically are you having trouble with?  What model of optical drive do you have and how old is it?  Not all writable media is created equal, but I don't recall any particular issues with Kodak DVD+R.

IIRC, -R was the generally more compatible format with a wider range of read devices.  That was years ago when the -/+R battle was raging.
