A complete tear down to change a battery every 6-10 years or so seems quite reasonable. It gives you a chance to clean years of dust off everything.
Your stuff, so drilling a hole is your call. Just seems like overkill.
Because I don't have a server room with a raised floor and all that, I try to do a tear down and clean of my desktop tower every couple of years.
