I like foscam. I've installed them at client offices and when my parents wanted to monitor their condo from their phones I picked up two 9821W's (v2) on amazon for ~75$ each. The feature set is pretty good and it even has pan/tilt. Get the bundle with accessories on amazon if it'll be wireless (has ethernet as well); comes with 9db high gain antennas. Those are 720p, good enough for my parents' application. 960p and 1080p are also available. They've got a micro SD Card for snapping pictures and/or video on motion or schedule. IR for great image in pitch black and even a mic/speaker (audio in and out as well if you want to upgrade those aspects). Setup was easy.

Let me know if I you'd like to see any aspect in action or sample screenshots/videos.

Does anyone have a favorite brand or model of home surveillance camera?

Our immediate need is to catch a pest (probably animal) doing a no-no
around the property. So it's an outside view and night vision is needed,
probably not tilt/pan.

Naturally, I want to be able to snap the feed from one of the Linux boxes.

Whadayall think?
