Good.
You keep bumping into needs for the classic tools.
For a good tutorial about how to use the classic tools,
read "The UNIX Programming Environment" by Kernighan and Pike.
For a good explanation of the philosophy behind Unix,
which is the philosophy behind Linux, read the wikipedia
article on "Unix philosophy" and Mike Gancarz'
"The UNIX Philosophy".
For more particular stuff, search the web for whatever tool you
want to use and "tutorial". Try several. Quickly dispatch the
mediocre or confusing ones. If something does not make sense,
quickly move on to a different tutorial. Sometimes real work
is involved.
For deeper understanding, find and read the manual.
Also, hang out with folks who use the classic tools.
The weekly Python dojos are one such place. See cohpy.org.
Mornings at Grandview Stauf's are good too.
Coffee, doughnuts, speck, and anything from Thurn's are
always welcome.
