If all else fails driver-wise, having PostScript or PCL to fall back on is really nice, especially compared to the frustration of a printer that you can't use to ... print. It's one of the reasons I like and prefer HP's printers. I don't know that *all* including the cheapest cheap-out inkjet accept generic PostScript, but all the HP printer's I've worked with will do PostScript.
