The original request about the computer or the phone going down may be due to frequent power outages so it's tangentially related at least.<br>
<br>At any rate, I am toying with getting a natural gas generator as a backup power option. I know one person who has this and thinks it's great. I like solar but think it's too expensive and my HOA won't allow a wind-mill in my back yard; so I am limited on options. <br>
<br>It's not critical because the APC allows me to survive short duration
power outages but I like the idea of surviving long duration power

I can see a benefit to running things off 12V DC during longer duration outages.<br>
