Tens of thousands of libraries around the world use OCLC services to locate, acquire, catalog, lend and preserve library materials. We are currently seeking candidates for a Senior Systems Engineer (VMware) position at our Corporate Headquarters in Dublin, Ohio.

       

      As a Senior Systems Engineer, your objective is to deploy, maintain, and performance tune virtual server platforms across the organization to ensure high levels of data quality, availability, and security. You will participate in the planning, and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure virtual server efficiency and maintenance that is consistent with the company goals and industry best practices.


      You are expected to stay current and proficient on emerging technologies through self-study and internal training, and meet all internal certification standards for skill sets identified within the realm of responsibility. 

      As a member of a 24x7 support team, this position must be available for after-hours critical escalations.

       

      The Virtualization System Support team provides VMware, VDI, and Citrix support.

      The VSS Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for the support of the virtualization infrastructure to include: VMware vSphere 4.x and 5,  ESX, ESXi, VMware View, Lab Manager, Orchestrator, Citrix XenApp 4.5 and server hardware. 

       
     
      Responsibilities
     
      Skills required:

      * vSphere 4.x or 5 installation, maintenance and support

      * Servers and blade technologies installation, maintenance and support

      * Windows and Linux operating systems

      * Troubleshooting, incident escalation, and problem solving

      * Performance tuning

      * Build and maintenance automation

      * Documentation

      * Power CLI, Perl Scripting and/or PowerShell

      * Networking

      * Storage technologies including fibre channel, 10GbE storage over IP, iSCSI, NFS

      * EMC and NetApp storage platforms

      * Knowledge of Cloud computing infrastructures

      * Monitoring and alerting

      * VMware concentric backup technologies

      * XenApp including Active directory, Group Policy, profile management and application packaging 

       


      Responsibilities include: 

       

      * Daily support of virtualized infrastructure.

      * Collaborate with internal teams to achieve ongoing business objectives  

      * Issue tracking, root cause analysis, and problem resolution

      * Development of standards including configuration, builds etc…

      * Develop processes and procedures

       
     
      Qualifications
     
      Technical Skills & Experience

        a.. Excellent service-driven customer-focused skills. 
        b.. 4+ years of experience with VMware ESX 
        c.. 5+ years experience with Windows Server 2000, 2003 (all versions) and Windows Server applications. 
        d.. 2+ years experience with SUSE Linux 
        e.. 5+ years experience working with enterprise server platforms 
        f.. 3+ years experience with enterprise storage solutions 
        g.. 2+ years experience with enterprise-class backup solutions. 
        h.. Strong working knowledge of Internet networking technologies and principals including TCP/IP and DNS. 
        i.. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft and Linux platforms and technologies 
        j.. Practical or educational background in development principles 
        k.. Proven ability to absorb, master and leverage emerging technologies.
