I just put the Techlife Columbus Meetup's calendar on my Google calendar (as 
well as "Columbus.App.Dev" and some more specific ones), and events that show 
up there appear on my phone's home screen. One could probably also set up 
filtered email notifications based on that.

Biggest problem is that to track things the way I do, I need both a Google 
account (which I need anyway for Android and other things) and a Meetup 
account. Though you might be able to get away without the Meetup account.
