[colug-432] squid auth - local or other

One of my teammates needed a web proxy for some testing he is doing.
I set him up with Squid.
Works.

So now he needs to test when the proxy requires credentials. Both of
us have been looking at it, but not yet figured it out, so I thought I
should ask. Any of you been through this before?

MY preference would be to let the proxy validate users against the
POSIX credentials. So do we need a PAM scheme for that? My teammate
noticed some recommendation about using 'htpasswd', for which I
suppose I'll need to install Apache. (The server he is using does not
have a web server, just the proxy.) I can do that. What do y'all
think? Doesn't really matter which auth scheme we use (which is part
of the problem: indecision!) just as long as he can cook up
username/password pairs that the proxy will demand.

Thanks for your sage advice.
