It's possible that there's a bug in the Ubuntu installer that prevents that 
from being an option for you. Thus Jim's offer of a USB-connected cdrom drive, 
which is more likely to work than a USB flash drive.

(Though I still think the grub2 option I mentioned is worth a try.)
