Another is to have a tiny clue about what is on the drive. 
Drives get moved around and one can forget what was on them. 
When fdisk -l doesn't reveal anything, non LVM ninjas are more 
likely to think it is unused and wipe it, 
than if it had a partition table. 

Comments are good. 

Think of a partition table as a comment, albeit a feeble comment.
