MEETING NOTICE
==============
Central Ohio Linux Users Group
Date: Wednesday, January 25 2012 from 7 PM to 9 PM local
Meeting Presentation
==============
January is a double header: technical debt and Emacs org-mode!
Elizabeth Naramore will talk about technical debt. It's something that
most project teams or independent developers have to deal with – we
take shortcuts to push out releases, deadlines need to be met, quick
fixes slowly become the standard. In this talk, she will discuss what
technical debt is, when it is acceptable and when it isn’t, and
strategies for effectively managing it, both on an independent and
team level.
Is organizing your work a 2012 resolution? Come see how you can do
that with Emacs's org-mode (http://orgmode.org/). Jon Miller will give
an overview of org-mode and then provide one methodology for
organizing your work.
Elizabeth is an author, speaker, and recovering coder. Her paying gig
is as the PHP Community Manager for Engine Yard
(http://www.engineyard.com/) and working with the fine fellows on the
Orchestra PHP Platform. She digs writing, fantasy football, good beer,
and sci-fi. She's an avid collector of old books and “that’s what she
said” jokes.
Jon Miller, currently working as the Linux/Unix Architect for
Nationwide Insurance, has using Linux since 1995 when it was important
to save your X86Config at your friend's house.
As always, feel free to bring with you any ailing or problematic
systems for expert diagnosis (or destruction).
The upcoming meeting is open to the general public, and all with an
interest in Free Software, Open Source, Emacs, Vim, Unix, Windows, are
invited.
There are no dues or fees.
