[colug-432] CD ripper replacement for gRip? - Asunder, RipperX, Ripoff

After happily using grip for many years, I am seeking a replacement.
This is precipitated by updating my daughters' box to Kubuntu 12.04,
which on that system forced removal of grip and libraries. (I am
still running it on openSUSE 12.1 ... for now)

I like the *configurability* of grip. I have my settings to create
--preset extreme mp3's -- and everything is named and stored exactly
the way I want it!! It populates the tags from cddb, so they work
right in devices that rely upon such - as ipods.

As I survey candidates, I find: ripperx, ripoff, asunder. (Sound
juicer seems to have problems with unavailability of
gstreamer0.10-lame in Ubuntu 12.04, as well as issues with the quality
of mp3 encoding when it is available)

Right now I'm leaning towards Asunder.
+ the only one that shows up in the openSUSE repos that I use.
+ seems to use lame and flac, rather than gstreamer ...
+ GTK+, so looks okay
? have to explore confgurablity !!
* is the only one of these three in the SUSE repos - others are only
in the more extensive Debian system * (I do want to have daughter
using "mainstream" utility.)

RipperX seems OK, but looks kludgy (as a GTK program)

Ripoff is one I discovered in Ubuntu repos. It has a plugin for
encoding mp3's, looks good.

Any experience, advice? other suggestions?

I note that k3b can rip and encode, as long as appropriate plugins are
there ... It appears I can configure quality, but i wonder if the
settings - esp. location "stick?"

Regards

Scott
