[colug-432] Skype and GUVCView Sound Problem

I am running 64 bit Debian Wheezy/Testing on one of my computers and am
having a problem that shortly will have me tearing out what little hair
I have on the to[p of my head.  Unfortunately, I have had no luck
Googling for the solution nor received any help from other users groups.

I have a Logitech webcam which was working perfectly with Skype and
Cheese prior to the failure of the hard drive on which the OS was
installed.

I replace the failed HD with a new 1TB drive and reinstalled the OS.
In addition to Skype and cheese I also installed GUVCView.  All of
which work, except there is no sound!  (Of course, I can't run both
cheese and GUVCview simultaneously as they won't share the camera.

Seeing as I am only a user, I have no idea as to why the microphone on
Skype worked before the disaster, nor do I have any inkling as to what
to do to solve the current problem(s).  All that I know with any degree
of certainty the microphone used to work.

Any help will be much appreciated.
