I just tried to retrieve email for a roadrunner address. 
It did not work, with or without APOP. 

    * Connecting to POP3 server: mail.twc.com...

    [10:32:52] POP3< +OK please send PASS command
    [10:32:52] POP3> PASS ********
    [10:32:53] POP3< -ERR invalid user name or password.

    ** Authentication failed.
    * Connecting to POP3 server: mail.twc.com...
    [10:38:38] POP3< +OK InterMail POP3 server ready.
    ** Required APOP timestamp not found in greeting
    ** Error occurred while processing mail.
