That's a remarkably old version of Knoppix, much older than your drive. 
Maybe that old version of Knoppix does not have information 
about your new drive. 

So, use a new version of Knoppix. 
Alternatively, you could try to update the version of 
smartmontools, although you probably don't have enough 
RAM or patience for it.
