[colug-432] Dell Gray Screen

I used to get gray screen when refurbishing laptops at Dell. A screen 
would ask for a password (not the users password) Nobody up the 
management chain of command could get it. The engineer could not get it. 
I don't remember what happened to those laptops afterwards.

Funny thing, my neighbor got a gray screen on a brand new Inspiron 1520 
while configuring wireless. I called Dell support for her. A person in 
India was able to provide me with the password and then I had to re 
install windows. I should have told her to send it back to dell under 
warranty and then buy another one.

She finally got a Mac and gave me the 1520 which I am running Mint on. 
No problems.

What causes the gray screen? Has anybody running Linux got a gray 
screen. Is it a Microsoft Centric problem?
