[colug-432] Digital Phone?

After switching from an AT&T land line to Insight Digital Phone some years back, I now have a Magic Jack Plus. I'm in my second year of using the Magic Jack and it is quite reliable. (So is the WOW Internet connection. AC power to the home, not so much...) My yearly bill is less than what I used to pay AT&T for a month's service...
Note that the land line actually powers a simple phone and almost always provides service when the electricity goes out. But, you pay a price for that reliability...
A Magic Jack or Magic Jack Plus also provides portability for moving to a new home or a different Internet provider.

I am not familiar with the term "digital phone" I believe she has a land 
line. I have heard from people that have had good and terrible 
experience with att u-verse. I suggested that she put off the 
appointment until I can find out more.

She runs windows on a fairly new Dell. She is not at all tech savvy and 
so I am not going to suggest Linux for her. I started using google voice 
for long distance and have chrome browser with hangouts on an other 
laptop so I can talk long distance via my laptop. That's an experiment 
to see how much google infringes on my privacy. I am thinking about 
suggesting google voice, or chrome browser with hangouts for her if she 
knows somebody local that can help her with it.

Any thoughts appreciated.
