Yep I recall the same, that WoW bought Ameritech and now owns a bunch of their cable infrastructure.
A few years back, AT&T was on quite a tear building out DSLAM cabinets around Columbus, probably to support their IPTV product. I'd imagine that in many cases you could get DSL as an alternative. Might be slow depending if you have a CO or DSLAM near you or not, but the bandwidth is all yours. I had 3/1 service and while those are low numbers, it really never strayed much below that.
