I’ve been running a supermicro atom box for some time now - 2 years, maybe 3. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816101332

Its very stable. I was able to move some old ddr2 laptop ram over, had an hd etc so the price to move for me was very light.

I’ve been running ubuntu server on it the whole time. I think I started with 12.0, its currently running … well damned dyndns and their idle lockout I don’t remember ;) I think its 13.x, whatever the latest server release.

Anyway, its a good little box. dual core + ht, so it looks like a 4-process system. There are newer revs than the 510 which add things like virt offload ( I think the 525 has that ) and ddr3 support. When I switched from an old desktop pc my power draw went down considerably - main reason I chose the atom. ( oh, and no cpu fan, only fan is on the power supply )
