less itself doesn't seem to be to blame-- it's the environment variables
that cause invocation of helper filters.  The mailing list entry referenced
in the article (http://seclists.org/fulldisclosure/2014/Nov/74 ) offers
what appears to be good advice:

At this point, my best advice would be for users to unset LESSOPEN and

LESSCLOSE if set by their distress.
