Hm, I wonder if that might have been the reason behind some of my high ping times:

I think the two interesting ping times that stood out were:

  6.|-- ae-4-0.cr0.chi30.tbone.rr.com 4.5% 1000 27.1 27.9 22.1 101.2 6.9
  7.|-- 66.109.1.40 15.6% 1000 24.1 29.9 21.2 108.4 13.2
    | `|-- 66.109.1.42
    | |-- 66.109.6.155
    | |-- 107.14.17.147
  8.|-- ae18.edge2.Chicago2.Level3.net 33.8% 1000 24.1 29.5 21.2 117.4 11.4
  9.|-- vl-3604-ve-228.ebr2.Chicago2.Level3.net 6.1% 1000 129.1 122.6 117.4 190.4 7.3
    | `|-- 4.69.158.50
    | |-- 4.69.158.58
    | |-- 4.69.158.54

This is a mtr report going in the opposite direction, http://git.io/UKyWzA

It seems that the last hop from TWC to Level3 and the first hop into Level3 in Chicago seem to
always have a problem if the route goes through there.
