I've been very happy with my Brother HL-5370DW monochrome laser printer over
the years (at least six, probably more). It has built-in PostScript 3
emulation ("BR-Script"), so it works great with Linux. I believe there's
also PCL6 support, if for some reason you don't like PostScript.
I'd be more wary of color printers, especially photo-quality ones, which is
why I still haven't replaced my Epson Stylus Photo R320 that decided it
wouldn't print anything more without a trip to a service center. The last
time I looked into photo printers it led me to buy a used Mac Mini that I
may someday use as a print server.
