connectivity surviving a power outage, I'm curious what others' thoughts
are. The original request about the computer or the phone going down may be
due to frequent power outages so it's tangentially related at least.

At any rate, I am toying with getting a natural gas generator as a backup
power option. I know one person who has this and thinks it's great. I like
solar but think it's too expensive and my HOA won't allow a wind-mill in my
back yard; so I am limited on options.

It's not critical because the APC allows me to survive short duration power
outages but I like the idea of surviving long duration power outages.

Here--> http://technocrat.net/d/2014/2/20/1 Bruce Perens explains how he
runs his computing infrastructure at his home off 12V using a single solar
panel, which is also interesting. I can see a benefit to running things off
12V DC during longer duration outages.
